Catholic Head of Syrian Rite to Be Celebrant.

The Florida Times Union article was published on November 26, 1937

Mass sung in Old Syriac or Aramusic, the language Christ supposedly spoke, will be heard Sunday by Syrian and Lebanon worshippers in the Holy Rosary Church, Laura and Cottage Streets.

The Most Rev. Cyril George Dallal. Archbishop of Mosul, Irak, and head of the Syrian Rite of the Roman Catholic Church, will conduct the traditional and colorful service, which will be open to the public. He will be assisted by his secretary, the Rev. John D. Rakose and Father Shamoun Yazagi, a local priest.

Archbishop Dallal, who came to this country in September on a tour of the United States to make a census of Syrian Catholics and Syrian Catholic Churches, arrived here on Monday and has been the guest at the homes of his native people where he has received many visitors and friends.

A celebration on the occasion of his silver jubilee as an archbishop was held Wednesday in the home of Mike Toney, 103 Trout River Drive. Archbishop Dallal was presented with a gift by former residents of Mosul now living in Jacksonville as a token of gratitude.

A dinner in honor of the Archbishop will be sponsored by the local Lebanon-American Club at 7 P. M. Sunday in the Mayflower hotel roof garden. Details of the arrangements will be announced later.

Archbishop Dallal today will be the guest of A. Ossi, 242 East Fifth Street. He was entertained yesterday in the home of A. R. Ossi, 1925 Pearl Street.
