About Us

Our vibrant community has outgrown the quaint walls of the St. Michael the Archangel's Catholic Church, the Society of St. Pius X's chapel in Northeast Florida, where the Traditional Latin Mass has faithfully been celebrated since 1988.

 

In response to this need for a larger space, the SSPX has purchased Old Holy Rosary in Jacksonville's historic neighborhood of Springfield.​ For a century, the image of Our Lady of the Rosary of Pompeii has adorned the grand entrance of this Romanesque Revival-style church. Honoring the past, we are breathing life into the old name.

 

Under the patronage and new name of Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, we can accommodate our growing congregation, provide the Sacraments, and attend to the needs of both our neighborhood of Springfield and our surrounding communities in Northern Florida and Southern Georgia.

Pompeii Rising's goal is to restore and enrich Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, even surpassing its former splendor. Through meticulous restoration efforts and community support, we aim to revitalize this architectural treasure, allowing it to once again stand as a beacon of faith, hope, and charity for generations to come.
